Markup on AI

Sound familiar?

AI chat windows that forget your characters mid-chapter.

Copy-pasting world notes into every single prompt.

Paying $20/month for a cloud writing tool that technically owns your manuscripts.

Scrivener's learning curve vs. the blank page of Google Docs.

Starting a new AI chat every time you switch scenes because context resets.

GrimoireScribe was built to fix all of it.

Features

Everything a novel needs.
Nothing it doesn't.

Not a document editor with features bolted on. A studio designed from the ground up for authors writing at scale.

Manuscript Studio

Organize at the book level.
Write at the scene level.

Acts, chapters, scenes. Full drag-and-drop reordering. Track scene status, synopsis, and word count at a glance. Rich text editing with auto-save every 1.5 seconds.

Focus mode strips away everything except your prose. Keyboard shortcuts for everything. DOCX and TXT import. You never lose a word.

Character Scribing & World Building

Write naturally.
The studio does the bookkeeping.

GrimoireScribe™ scans your prose, detects characters and aliases, and tags them to every scene they appear in. No manual spreadsheets.

Upload lore bibles, maps, notes. Semantic retrieval (RAG) pulls only what's relevant to each scene. No dumping your entire bible into every prompt.

GrimoireScribe Fantasy
The foundation. Nine core principles: sensory specificity, character psychology, atmosphere built from wrongness. The standard all others extend.
GrimoireScribe Fantasy: Dark
Darkness earned, not performed. Consequences real and permanent. The morally correct choice and the narratively satisfying choice are frequently different things. Abercrombie, Erikson, Martin, Lawrence.
GrimoireScribe Fantasy: Epic
Scale and intimate human stakes held simultaneously. Multi-POV, world-historical narrative with individual emotional grounding. Jordan, Erikson, Sanderson, Tolkien.
GrimoireScribe Fantasy: Mythic
Mythology as the world's physics. Belief literally sustains or diminishes divine things. The story that feels like it was always true. Gaiman, C.S. Lewis, Clarke, Miller.
GrimoireScribe Fantasy: YA
Emotionally sophisticated, morally complex fantasy compressed rather than simplified. A narrative posture, not a difficulty level. Bardugo, Rothfuss, Schwab, Taylor.
Literary Fiction
Character over event. What the character notices, lingers on, looks away from is the interiority. Munro, Ishiguro, Robinson, Strout.
Narrative Journalism
Source-first generation. [VERIFY] markers. The AI won't fabricate your facts. Larson, Lewis, Boo, Grann.
Thriller
Pace as a moral stance: this matters, it matters now, and the clock is running. Le Carré, Harris, Child, Flynn, Winslow.
Narrative Nonfiction & Memoir
How to render your own experience in a way that is useful to someone who is not you. Karr, Strayed, Didion, McPhee, Coates.
Mystery & Crime
Information management: what the reader knows, what the detective knows, and what the truth is. Three separate things. French, Flynn, Atkinson, le Carré.
Historical Fiction
The past as a living place, not a costume. Research-as-transparency: period details that convince the reader you were there. Mantel, Tóibín.
Upmarket Fiction
Readability is a feature. Plot, character, and prose all matter. None sacrificed for the others. Ng, Russo, Doerr, Towles.
Horror & Dark Fiction
Sustained dread across the length of a novel. Jackson's domestic uncanny. King's ordinary life as the thing being threatened. Machado, Tremblay.
Literary Science Fiction
The speculative premise as thought experiment with human consequences. Le Guin, Chiang, Jemisin, Butler.
Romance
The central relationship is the plot. Every scene advances it, complicates it, or clarifies what's at stake. Hibbert, Hoang, Alexis Hall.
AI Writing

It knows your entire book.
Five modes to use that.

Every AI request automatically includes your book summary, writing style guide, character profiles, relevant world notes, and the prior scene. You don't paste anything. GrimoireScribe™ assembles the context for you.

Every suggestion is a proposal. You read it, revise it, accept it. Or don't. Nothing is ever automatically added to your manuscript.

WriteEditDiscuss

Continue the scene: the gunslinger examining the footprints. Emphasize internal conflict between pursuit and doubt.

SUGGESTION

He turned once, looked back at the trail he had made. It was clean and single-minded, each boot print deep and certain. He wondered why the footprints of a man who no longer believed in himself should look so sure.

Your story stays
where it belongs.

Everything you write: every scene, every character note, every scrap of world-building. It lives in a folder on your hard drive. Not a server. Not the cloud. Your machine.

If you're writing fiction with personal themes, with characters that mirror real people, with stories you're not ready to share. The idea that any of it might be read by a corporate AI training pipeline is not paranoia. It's a reasonable objection.

Why I Built This

I was spending more time managing my writing process than actually writing. Scrivener was overwhelming, my AI workflow was fragmented across tabs and chats, and nothing talked to each other. So I built something that does.

GrimoireScribe is the tool I needed and couldn't find.

Common Questions

Quick answers.

Is it really a one-time payment?
Yes. $79 once. No subscription, no monthly fees, no annual renewals. The license is perpetual and every GrimoireScribe™ license includes all future major versions. V2, V3, and beyond: included at no additional cost.
Does it require an internet connection?
No. GrimoireScribe™ runs entirely offline. The only internet calls happen when you actively trigger an AI feature, and every single one requires your explicit action. Those requests go directly to your chosen provider, never to us. When V2 launches, our fine-tuned local model ships pre-packaged, so you can go fully offline without losing AI features.
What happens to my writing if you shut down?
Your local copy continues to work indefinitely. It doesn't require a connection to our servers. Your manuscripts are plain files on your hard drive. Worst case: you stop receiving updates.
Do I need to use the AI features?
No. Every manuscript tool, character system, world builder, and export feature works fully offline without any AI features enabled. Many users prefer it this way.
